Important Update: Weight Loss Injections, HRT, and Contraception
You may have recently seen updates in the news regarding the impact of weight loss injections (often known as “skinny jabs”) on women taking hormone replacement therapy (HRT) or oral contraceptives. The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) has released important guidance on this topic.
- Weight loss injections may reduce the effectiveness of contraceptive pills.
- They must not be used during pregnancy or while breastfeeding.
- Alternative contraception is strongly recommended.
- You should avoid becoming pregnant for at least 2 months after stopping treatment.
