On Tuesday 3rd April the Malthouse Surgery received 949 incoming telephone calls from patients, almost 100 an hour. The average answer time for the day was 3 minutes, however, we know some people who called at a time when lots of others called waited much longer than this and we apologise. Remember before you call the surgery to make an appointment there are alternatives for minor health problems, such as going to your local pharmacist.

Non-NHS Medical Services

There is a charge for services not covered by the NHS. These include passport, driving licence and fitness to travel verifications, private medicals, insurance claims and some vaccines. A list of fees is available in the surgery. Payment must be rendered at time of attendance or collection.

Minor Injuries Unit

There is a Minor Injuries Unit based at Abingdon Hospital which is open seven days a week from 10.00am - 10.30pm where people can go for treatment of minor injuries such as sprains, strains and broken bones. For many people the MIU will offer quicker treatment closer to home. Therefore please use this facility before contacting the surgery. The service is run on a ‘drop-in’ basis so therefore you do not need to make an appointment to go there. If you would like to speak to them on the phone for initial advice, please phone on 01865 903 476. If you have an injury, please contact the minor injuries unit before you contact the surgery.

Remember, too, that your local pharmacist can give advice on the treatment of minor ailments and injuries.
